Charles “Chuck” Child passed away on Monday, February 5th, 2018 at the age of 41.
Chuck was born to parents Richard Child and Bonnie Day on January 18th, 1977 in Grande Isle, VT. Chuck spent part of his childhood at Karmê Chöling Shambhala Meditation Center. The eldest of two, Chuck attended Mount Mansfield Union High School, going on to earn his GED.
Chuck worked in Information Technology, relocating to Michigan to marry ex-wife Rachel Weisenfeld. He later worked as a personal assistant.
A man of many passions, Chuck served on the board of several social organizations including Penguicon.
A lifelong science fiction fan, Chuck spent many years exploring the reaches of space and discovering new peoples and languages.
Charles is survived by his fiancée, Kathryn Whitlock; his parents, Richard and Bonnie; and his brother, Andrew.
A memorial service open to the public will be held on Sunday, April 8th at Still Point Zen Buddhist Temple in Detroit, Michigan. The service begins at 3 p.m.
Chuck’s family is grateful for the condolences, and asks that donations be made to the Heart Failure Society of America and The Mars Generation in lieu of flowers.
