Fred passed away June 24, 2022 at the age of 78. Devoted husband of Jackie (Sherrill) Smith for 54 years, dear father of Freddie (Jessica), Robin (Kenny) Jensen, Kim (Tim) Rowland, Linda Holderbaum. Proud grandfather of Kenny & Jack, Christopher, Sarah & Clarissa, and great grandfather to Jaxson. Loving brother of Linda Kay (Leonard) Fawcett and Sonny (Linda Sue). Preceded in death by his brother Gary, mother Dorothy and father Boyd.
For 42 years Fred worked for Borman Food / Farmer Jack Stores in the metropolitan Detroit area. He worked as a stock boy for a few years, before joining the Army and serving in Vietnam; earning a Purple Heart in 1967 and returning as a wounded combat veteran. After healing up he got right back to work. With his great work ethic, Fred worked his way up the ladder in short order, before retiring as the Metro-Detroit District Manager – Deli Department in 2003. He was an excellent fisherman and spent as much time as possible on his boat with a fishing pole in hand. Fred also was known to visit the casino now and then, where his gambling stories were just as entertaining as his fishing stories. Fred had a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know him and love him.
A memorial will be held for Fred at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly Michigan.
