Harold James Kouris

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, MI – Harold James “Jim” Kouris, 89, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 4, 2019. He was surrounded by his beloved wife Fran of 64 years along with his immediate family. Jim was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 29,1930 and graduated from Cooley High School. He entered the U.S. Army in September 1948 and served with the Anti-Aircraft unit in Okinawa.

Upon completion of his military service, he started with the automotive supply company, Douglas & Lomason. He retired after 44 years with the company as the Vice President of Purchasing and has enjoyed the past 24 years of retirement. He loved his time with family, the house up north at Shanty Creek, boating at Jefferson Beach Marina and Detroit Yacht Club, spending time in Traverse CIty and deer hunting.

Jim is survived by his wife Fran; his four children, Kim (Bob Binsfield), Jay (Tammy), Dana (the late Keith Heika) and Kelly (Ed Pobur); his seven grandchildren, Brittany (Patrick Reynolds), Kyle, Max, Shannon, Eddie, Michael and Sophia; and his sister Jane (John). He is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Marie; and his brother Stan (Betty).

Jim will receive Military Honors at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 10:30 am. A Celebration of Life luncheon to follow.
