Joe Edwin Taylor, Jr.

Joe E. Taylor, Jr., 78, of Troy died Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Troy Beaumont Hospital. Joe was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Joe passed peacefully with his loving wife by his side. Joe and June were together for 62 years, married 58-years, and their love story was still going strong.
Joe graduated from Newark High School in Ohio, after which he became a journeyman tool and die maker, later worked many years as an automotive engineer, and then finished out his working years in industrial sales.
Joe will be deeply missed, but always remembered for his outgoing and boisterous personality, his never-ending willingness to help others, and his dedication to family & friends. Joe was intrinsically mechanically-inclined and could do just about anything! He was known to do beautiful auto-body repair and painting, had the uncanny ability to install, repair, or build just about anything. One of the accomplishments he had been most excited about was when he earned his private pilot’s license. More recently, Joe was an avid woodworker for many years; his family will forever cherish his many beautiful creations. Joe’s family often called him their “energized bunny” due to his boundless energy & non-stop mind.

Joe refused to let his many health challenges over the last 30 years slow him down. He defied the odds many times, surprising his doctors. In 2009 he was diagnosed with MDS (myleodyplastic syndrome) but was tough and determined and managed to continue to thrive for many years, he continued to live life to its fullest! Ultimately, Joe died due to complications of pneumonia and septic shock.

Joe was born the oldest of 5 siblings and was preceded in death by his father Joe Sr., mother, Betty, brothers Jim, Jerry, & Jon. Joe is survived by his loving wife June, children Darla (Mark) Oyama, and Kip (Judy) Taylor, and grandchildren Katie Oyama and Cory (Katie Page) Oyama, one sister Jan (Jack) Fogress, brother-in-law Fred McClain, and several nieces & nephews. He also leaves behind his much-adored rescue kitty “Rosie”.

In keeping with Joe’s wishes and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be holding public visitation or funeral service; his passing will be observed privately among the family. Expressions of sympathy or notes recalling fond memories of Joe may be sent to his wife.
