Mary Anne Jensen

Mary Anne Jensen (nee Schutter) passed away peacefully on January 26, 2021, surrounded by her children.

Born in Detroit in 1933, Mary Anne attended St. Anthony High School, where she remained a dedicated member of their alumni group.

Mary Anne and her husband, Bill who predeceased her in 2015, lived together in their Madison Heights home for nearly six decades raising five children. She was a homemaker and dedicated mother. A master in the kitchen, Mary Anne loved to cook, bake and tell many wild tales. She used her cook’s intuition rather than recipes. If you came over to dinner at the Jensen house, you knew you were in for a treat. She was the first person you could call for cooking tips. She passed her love of the culinary arts to her children and grandchildren.

In retirement, Mary Anne and Bill spent many winters in Florida enjoying the weather and friends from across the US and Canada. Bill loved to golf while Mary Anne enjoyed playing bingo and eating out with her Red Hat Society friends.
Mary Anne loved all animals. As a child, she had all sorts of pets including a goat and an alligator. She loved her dogs and grand dogs and was known to make them healthy treats and a fried egg for Sunday breakfast.

Mary Anne had a phenomenal memory and sharp mind. She used these skills to consistently win when playing Gin Rummy, Yahtzee and Scrabble, still winning until the last weeks of her life.

She is survived by her children:
Marie (John) Schwalenberg , Bill (Karen) Jensen, Chris (Sherry) Jensen,
Susan (Tim) Weed, Kenny (Robin) Jensen

8 grandchildren: (Kelly, Billy, Christa, Leigha, Alex, Jenna, Kenny and Jack) and
6 great grandchildren: (Lucas, Annie, William, Sadie, Briley, and Charlie)

Brother, Ronald Schutter (Ann), Sister-in-law, Pat Jensen, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their deepest heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to her caregivers Denise, Jeannie and Debbie; whose love and care made all the difference to Mary Anne in her final years.

Due to current conditions in the community, the family will plan a private Celebration of Life at a later date.

Please honor her life in your own way or gifts in Mary Anne’s memory may be made to the Michigan Humane Society.
