Parmatma Devi Modgil

Parmatma was born on July 1st, 1934 in Chatthe Sekhoan Village, Punjab to Indira and Chet Ram Bhardwaj. Despite not being able to pursue an education, Parmatma spread her vast wisdom to all who surrounded her and continued to do so when she passed. Her profound ideas touched the hearts of so many, earning her the reputation of a wise and compassionate individual.

Thoughout her lifetime, Parmatma wholeheartedly devoted herself to supporting her family and loved ones. She treasured the quality time she spent with her family, having told hundreds of stories by the end of her lifetime. When she had the free time, Parmatma spent it sewing, knitting, and weaving together ornate garments, gifting them to family members out of her immense love and endearment.

Parmatma married Suraj Parkash at the age of 17 and devotedly supported her husband for 74 years. When her husband passed in 2022, Parmatma stated that she hoped to be reunited with him in her next life. Regardless of their numerous lovers’ quarrels, the more subtle, yet passionate love they shared with each other will last beyond their lifetimes.

When Parmatma was 60 years old, she and her husband, Suraj Parkash, left for the states in pursuit of a better life, overcoming the numerous obstacles of the immigration process. In fact, they began work almost immediately at a small motel in Norwich, New York State.
