Raymond Frederick Rollet, 78, of Troy, Michigan, died on August 3, 2016, at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Paula for 46 years and dear father of Renee (Dan) Bishop, Suzette Verbeke, and Douglas Rollet. Raymond was also the caring grandfather of Bree Ann, David, Joshua, Michael, and Nicholas. He will be sadly missed by his sisters-in-law Nancy Wells and Cathy (Marty) Sanchez as well as his nephews Shane, Vincent and Spencer.
Raymond was a dedicated educator in the Roseville Community Schools for 33 years. He held degrees from Detroit Institute of Technology, Eastern Michigan University, and Oakland University. A voracious reader, Raymond remained abreast of educational trends and the ever-changing challenges facing students through the decades. He wanted students to succeed in school and thrive in adulthood.
His knowledge, dedication, and compassion helped make him a master teacher, counselor and administrator. Raymond’s relaxed demeanor with students encouraged discussion without fear of judgment or recrimination. He worked to inspire confidence and instill a sense of self-worth in each individual.
Always a highly principled egalitarian, Raymond strove to establish educationally superior programs. He did not hesitate to challenge conventional thinking if it failed to serve the best interest of students. Raymond initiated or was involved in innovative programs both inside and outside the Roseville school district. This included working with local, county and state organizations for the benefit of Roseville students and teachers.
Raymond developed a school management computer system for the high school. He wrote three funded grants. One grant resulted in a Drug Crisis Intervention Center for young people that ran 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Raymond not only worked to create the center but also devoted many hours to counseling callers and drop-ins.
Raymond enjoyed life. He was an avid traveler, connoisseur of the arts, genealogical expert, and a landscape gardener. He remained a voracious reader of history and biographies. Gifted with a remarkable memory, Raymond delighted in sharing his knowledge. Raymond was an unassuming Renaissance Man.
Ray’s patience, sense of fairness, and desire to help, serve as a lasting inspiration for all. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
