Stella Mae Bergin (nee Smith), age 85 of Clarkston, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 16, 2022.
Born October 12, 1936, to Roy and Mable (nee Mullins) Smith, Stella spent most of her childhood in her birth city of Hamilton, Ohio. In the fall of 1954, she moved to Michigan where she lived her life in the beautiful Metro Detroit area.
Stella took great pride in raising her four children, watching them grow and create their own families. There was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Stella absolutely loved them all and they adored her just as much!
When not with family, you could find Stella online playing games and puzzles with them, particularly “Words with Friends”, which she usually won due to her love of words. She also took pleasure in solving the NY Times crossword puzzles. She loved going to craft shows with her daughters, birthday dinner celebrations, lunching and shopping in Holly; anything she got to do together with her kids brought her great joy!
Stella was a lifelong learner and avid reader who passed her general curiosity about life down to her children and grandchildren. Lately, she was greatly interested in all the learnings that will come from the James Webb Space Telescope.
Having a knack for creating healthy meals and making them taste wonderful, Stella loved to cook. She was one of the few people that could somehow make spaghetti squash lasagna taste delicious, with guests even wanting her recipe! She also loved the arts; literature, theatre, music, and politics were her deep passions. In fact, Stella was an artist in her own right, from sketching portraits of her grandchildren to painting French murals.
Stella is survived by her four children, Larry (Yvette) Pierce of Washington Township, Lisa (Dave Ziemba) Pierce of Clarkston, Laura (Gery) Plourde of Clarkston, and Linda (Rick Schlager) Pierce of Waterford; her grandchildren, Chris (Jon), Scott (Stacy), Rachel, Rebecca (Danny), Sarah (Joe), Eric (Chelsea), Adam, Alex (Shannon) and Emma; her great-grandchildren, Kailyn, Sophia, Brayden, and Vada; her sisters, Pat Vendal and Norma (Bob) Brett; and her many nieces and nephews.
Stella is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Betty Smith and Joyce Turner, brother-in-law Jay Vendal, and her nephew Scott Turner.
As per Stella’s wishes there will not be a funeral, however a memorial is being planned for this spring.
