Susan Ann Simmers

A loving mother and devoted missionary

Susan Ann Simmers, 55, passed away on January 4, 2017 surrounded by family and loved ones.

Susan was born on March 23, 1961 in Pontiac, Michigan to Carol McDonough and the late William McDonough. Susan lived in Michigan and raised her five beautiful children. Along the course of her life, Susan devoted much of her time doing missionary work for those in need. She built a school, church, orphanage, and medical clinic in Cameroon, Africa. Susan’s goal in life was to help as many people as she could, and she touched many lives. Her thought in life was to always give, never focused on receiving. Susan had one of the biggest hearts this world will ever see, and she now rests in heaven after putting all of her time on Earth towards helping others.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, William McDonough, and her brothers Kenneth and William McDonough. She is survived by her five children Richard (Tiffany) Holtkamp, Brianna (Frank) Agnello, Jeffery Holtkamp, Arianna Simmers and Jake Simmers, her mother Carol McDonough, her grandchildren (Mee-maws miracles) Blake Holtkamp, Kylee Holtkamp, Taylor Parker and Frankie Agnello, her sisters Barbara McDonough and Patricia (Mark) Racicot, her ex-husband Michael Simmers, her many supportive friends, and the countless number of lives she touched during her time here on Earth.

A memorial service will be held in memory of Susan at Gramer Funeral Home in Clawson, Michigan on January 21, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. with the Fr. Francis Muma presiding. The service will be followed by a celebration of Susan’s life. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial gifts to one of the following organizations: The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (www.afsp.org), the Miracle League of Michigan (www.MichiganMiracle.org/donate/), Ashia Foundation (www.ashia.ch/spenden.html).

May this amazing woman rest in peace, and may her amazing legacy live on forever.

Sue always had such a big heart ❤️ and more energy then then anyone we have ever seen. Rest In Peace.

  2. Mama Sue,

Our first meeting on the mission field in Benue State, Nigeria in 2014 will remain permanently etched in my memory. Your selflessness knew no bounds. I saw a genuine desire to be poured out for the sake of humanity. You inspired me to give more and expect nothing in return. I got ill on that trip from Malaria, and you were a mother in care so I could go on. Upon arriving the US, you were the first person to extend a hand of fellowship, when I was having a rough time.
I am totally torn by your passing. Words can not bring you back. I can only say that I will stay fired up to reach out to the needy even in the darkest of places and times. I miss you dearly Mama Sue. The entire world of the lives you have touched directly and indirectly misses you.
    Rest on in peace.

  3. Thoughts and prayers from our family to yours. Your mom was a wonderful person and her memory will live on in all the lives she touched.
