Kathleen Lakey

Kathleen Lakey, a resident of Troy for 30 years, passed away on June 12, 2023 at 64 years old. Kathleen was born on October 10, 1958 in Detroit to William and Rosemary Kopke.

Kathleen married the love of her life John Lakey in St. Clair Shores on September 7, 1979. They enjoyed over 43 years of loving marriage together until her passing.

Kathleen was a creative soul in all avenues of life. A master crafter: she loved gardening, sewing, knitting, cross-stitching, beading, painting, and all manner of creative outlets. She was industrious, learning how to grow her own vegetables and can her own food. She loved the simple things–visiting arcades, collecting stones on the beach, eating at the park, sitting in her recliner near her family. She loved learning about other religions and cultures and taking advantage of all the cultural fairs in and around Troy. She loved her family above all things and touted that she simply “did not make junk” when her children doubted themselves. She wanted to be remembered for her kindness, which she carried with her everywhere, even through her last days in her hospice bed.

Kathleen is survived by many who will miss her, including her husband, John Lakey: her children, Michelle Lakey Dinwiddie (Douglas) and Christopher John Lakey: her granddaughter, Evelyn Dinwiddie: and her sister Suzanne Pacynski (Rick).

Kathleen is preceded in death by her parents, William and Rosemary Kopke.

A visitation will be held for Kathleen from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Gramer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., Clawson, MI 48017.
