Lytle Berkey Russell

Lytle Berkey Russell, 95 of Royal Oak, Michigan was peacefully called home by his Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
Lytle is survived by his loving wife of 76 years Donna Jean, children Marjorie Russell, Neil Russell (Theresa), Charles Russell (Wilma), Linda Orlando, grandchildren Tonya Adamski, Mariah Goos,Steven Selman, Stacey Poppert, Stephanie Henry, Sharon Bennett, Douglas Orlando, Dayna Russell, great grandchildren Danny Passingham, Michael Selman, Alexandria Selman, Kaitlyn Orlando, Chloe Selman, Travis Bennett, Joseph Adamski, Olivia Perry, Conner Poppert. Lytle was predeceased by his mother Bernice, father Charles, infant brother Charles Russell and son Lawrence Russell.
Lytle was born and grew up in Flint Michigan where he met childhood friend Donna Jean and later became the love of his life. He served in the United States Navy on a Destroyer Escort ship from July 1945-July 1946 when he was honorably discharged. After the completion of his military service Lytle married Donna Jean on January 4, 1947. The couple lived and worked in Flint Michigan until 1949 when they moved to Aurora Missouri where Lytle received his education to become an offset lithographer cameraman. Upon returning to Michigan he found employment in Detroit. Later in 1951 they were able to purchase their home in the suburb of Royal Oak and begin their family with the birth of Marjorie. Royal Oak became their home where they raised their 5 children. Lytle worked for James Motchell Printing in Detroit for 20 years before working at Superior Litho, Ferndale Michigan until their closing in 1971. In 1972 with his son Neil they opened PDQ Printing in Royal Oak. Lytle worked and operated PDQ Printing until his retirement in 1989. Lytle had many interests throughout the years along with raising 5 children. He loved roller rink skating, family vacations, hunting for agates in Lake Superior, camping and square dancing. Lytle was involved in his children’s activities such as youth square dancing, Boy Scouts, baseball, roller rink skating and helping the boys with their paper routes. Lytle was an avid camper with his family and continued his passion into his retirement. Lytle and Donna were blessed to be able to travel many places throughout the west in their motor home. Many winters were spent in Texas at the Fun & Sun Camping Resort. Lytle and Donna were members of the Michigan Good Sam’s Club and the Traveling Squares (square dancers) camping groups during their camping days. Lytle was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Birmingham where he also served as a rummage sale worker throughout the years.

A memorial service is planned for September 23, 2023 at 11:00 am at The First United Methodist Church of Birmingham, 1589 W. Maple Rd., Birmingham, MI 48009.
A luncheon to follow the service at the church.
