Mary Jane Cook

Mary passed away under hospice care on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Waterford Oaks Senior Care in Waterford, Michigan. Mary was 89 years of age. For the last 8+ years Mary resided at the Lockwood Retirement Community in Waterford, Michigan.
She was born October 20, 1933, to the late Joseph and Clara (Wilken) Godar in Cincinnati, Ohio. She lost her mother at the young age of six. Her father remarried Elizabeth (Betty) Henry in 1948. Joe and Betty welcomed their daughter Jo Ann (Godar) Valerino in 1950. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her brother Joseph (Joe) and sisters Carolyn and Elizabeth (Betsy).
In 1951 she married her childhood sweetheart James (Jim) Cook. Jim passed away on May 7, 2020. She is survived by her half-sister Jo Ann, her five children: sons Jim (Linda), Jerry, Mike (Vicki) and daughters, Jean and Kathy (Tim) Dowd, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was a stay-at-home mother with the monumental task of raising five children during the late 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s. Mary loved to fish, garden and hunt seashells on the Florida shores of the Gulf of Mexico. She also enjoyed flying to various destinations with her husband in single engine airplanes including the homebuilt (Barracuda) that Jim made.
Rest in peace, we love and miss you mom.
Per her wishes, there will only be a small service (family only) with cremation to be conducted soon.
